Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women open defense of GLVC crown this weekend

The Rockhurst women's tennis team captured their fourth GLVC West Division championship and will try to defend their title in the GLVC Championship Tournament this weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Hawks (14-3, 5-0) will meet the winner of Indianapolis and Southwest Baptist in a semifinal match at 2 p.m. Saturday at Center Grove High School. The final match will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m., weather permitting. The RU women are making their 19th appearance in the GLVC Tournament.

Rockhurst is coming off conference wins over Quincy (6-1) and Truman State (7-0) last weekend at the Plaza Tennis Center.

Ella Coleman won both of her No. 1 singles matches in two sets and teamed up with Marina Magai to win No. 2 doubles over Quincy and Truman.

Marina Magai, Zuzanna Szmyd and Maria Baez also went 2-0 in their singles matches last weekend. Camila Neyra and Szmyd won both of their No. 1 doubles matches.

The Hawks ended the weekend with a 7-0 victory at home over William Jewell.
