Rockhurst extends winning streak to nine in a row

Avery Huffman's three-hit shutout led Rockhurst to a 5-0 win over Southwest Baptist in Game One of a doubleheader at Loyola Park. Claire Long, Emily Berry and Mya Bristow each collected two hits and combined for five RBI to lead RU to a 7-2 win in Game Two. 

The Hawks (27-16, 14-8 GLVC) are now on a nine-game winning streak, tied their longest since 2011.

Game 1: RU 5, SBU 0
The Hawks scored once in each of the first three innings. Rockhurst scored a pair in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Berry, McKenna Lester and Emma Reeves combined for three hits and four RBI.
  • Eva Fulk (two), Lily Hance, Reeves and Kaylee Pugh combined for five stolen bases. 
  • Huffman (15-8) recorded her 18th complete game of the season and her fourth shutout. She struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits.
Game 2: RU 7, SBU 2
RU scored one run in the second, four in the third and once each in the fourth and the fifth.
  • Long and Bristow each hit their sixth home run of the season. 
  • Fulk, Taylor Sedam and Jazmyne Moreno all stole a base.
  • Berry and Long each tallied a double. 
  • Riley Braden (4-4) allowed no runs on only two hits in the final four innings of the game and struck out four.

Rockhurst faces Drury at noon and 2 p.m. at Loyola Park in what will be the Hawks' final two home games of the season.
