Mesa holds off Hawks' rally in the fourth quarter

Colorado Mesa scored five unanswered goals in the third quarter and held Rockhurst scoreless over the final 11 minutes to edge the 20th-ranked Hawks, 9-7, Sunday in Alamosa, Colorado.

The 14th-ranked Mavericks jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second quarter. Rockhurst scored the next three goals to take a 5-4 lead with 12:21 left in the third quarter. Mesa scored five goals in six minutes to grab a 9-5 lead. The Hawks (1-1) host Quincy in their home opener at 6 p.m. Thursday.
