The Rockhurst women's swimming and diving team recorded five individual victories Friday (Oct. 16), but the Hawks came up short against Missouri-St. Louis in a dual meet at St. Louis Community College–Forest Park.
Halle McCullough led the Hawks with two individual victories, while Ava Hughbanks, Reese Moore and Liza Engelbrecht each added first-place finishes.
McCullough opened her impressive afternoon with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, touching the wall in 2:14.68. She narrowly defeated UMSL's Libby Smith, who finished second in 2:14.87. McCullough followed with another close victory in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:07.22, just 0.41 seconds ahead of the Tritons' Lena Olender.
Hughbanks and Addy Moore gave Rockhurst a one-two finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Hughbanks claimed first place in 1:59.03, edging Moore by just 0.13 seconds as she finished second in 1:59.16. Hughbanks later added a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.58.
Reese Moore provided another highlight for Rockhurst in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event in 25.05 seconds. Moore finished 0.15 seconds ahead of UMSL's Olender before adding a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.68.
Engelbrecht continued the Hawks' success in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall first in 59.99 seconds. Addy Moore followed closely behind in second place at 1:00.41, giving Rockhurst another sweep of the top two positions.
In the distance events, Paige Sheridan delivered a pair of runner-up performances. Sheridan placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.64 before adding another second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:15.70. Trista Neukom also contributed with a third-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking 11:00.02.
Rockhurst opened the afternoon with a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Hughbanks, McCullough, Engelbrecht and Reese Moore combined for a time of 4:02.57, finishing behind UMSL's winning time of 3:58.31.
The Hawks closed the meet with second- and third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay. June Schmidt, Engelbrecht, Addy Moore and Minna Tan finished second in 1:43.85, while Neukom, Sheridan, Bella Teaford and Yara Elkoush placed third in 1:44.78.
Rockhurst will remain in St. Louis for another road meet Saturday (Oct. 17), facing Saint Louis University at 11 a.m.
