Women’s Soccer posts 3-1 win in 2025 debut

Caitlyn Smith's two first-half goals led the Rockhurst Hawks to a 3-1 season-opening victory over Fort Hays State on Friday afternoon at Bourke Field.

Smith's first goal was scored in the fourth minute from 35 yards out during a free kick restart. In the ninth minute, Smith scored her second from 25 yards away to give the Hawks a quick 2-0 lead.

After Fort Hays State cut the lead to 2-1 in the 49th minute, Anna Lantz scored in the 50th minute from six yards out to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. Maya Wallace and Quinn Conroy both assisted on Lantz's goal.

Lantz led the Hawks with nine shots and six shots on goal. Kaitlyn Hobart and Jacie Tottleben also recorded a shot. Kayce Cooper posted four saves.

The Hawks (1-0) will next face Missouri Southern on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Joplin, Missouri.
