Hawks split doubleheader with 4-1 win over Jewell

Madeline McCall and Riley Braden combined to give up one hit in a 4-1 Rockhurst victory over crosstown rival William Jewell in the second game of a GLVC softball doubleheader Sunday in Liberty, Missouri.

McCall pitched the first 2.1 innings and Braden pitched the final 4.2 innings without allowing a hit to collect her fourth win of the season.

The Hawks scored three runs in the first on a sacrifice fly by McKenna Lester and a two-run home run by Emily Berry, her third of the season.

Kaylee Pugh recorded an RBI single in the fourth shortly after the Cardinals scored once in the bottom of the third.

William Jewell took the first game, 3-2, after Rockhurst tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth. The Cardinals won after scoring on a game-winning walk. 

Lester and Claire Long led the Hawks with two hits apiece. Lester and Mya Bristow each recorded an RBI single. Eva Fulk collected a hit and a run scored. Lily Hance scored a run as a pinch-runner.

Up Next
The Hawks (13-17, 10-8 GLVC) have a pair of doubleheaders on the road next weekend. Rockhurst travels to Drury on April 12 and to Southwest Baptist on April 13.
