Pierce leads Hawks to 5-4 win over Maryville

Jayla Pierce's game-winning two-run home run in the top of the sixth gave the Hawks a 5-4 victory in game two of a doubleheader against Maryville on Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri. Rockhurst fell 4-1 to Maryville in the first game.

Game 2: Rockhurst 5, Maryville 4
The Hawks scored in the top of the first when Kerstyn Finch stole third and scored a run on a Maryville throwing error. The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the first. 

Run-scoring singles by Emily Berry and Eva Fulk in the fourth and fifth, respectively, gave Rockhurst a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth.

Maryville scored three runs in the fifth to take 4-3 lead moments before Pierce's game-winning home run.

Finch led the Hawks with three hits. Berry and McKenna Lester recorded two hits. Claire Tipton also had a double.

Finch collected two stolen bases in game two, and Fulk and Berry also stole a base. Madeline McCall (2-5) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Riley Braden got the final two outs for the save.

Game 1: Maryville 4, Rockhurst 1
The Saints scored a run in the bottom of the third and three in the bottom of the fifth. Finch's RBI groundout in top of the sixth cut the Saints' lead to 4-1. 

Jazmyne Moreno led the Hawks with two hits. Kaylee Pugh also had a hit and Finch added a walk.

The Hawks continue their road trip in St. Louis, facing Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m.
