Hawks fall to UMSL in overtime at GLVC Tournament

The seventh-seeded Rockhurst men's basketball team fell to second-seeded Missouri-St. Louis, 77-70, in overtime in the first round of the GLVC Men's Basketball Tournament on Thursday in St. Charles, Missouri.

After Rockhurst (17-12) cut the UMSL lead to 10 at 40-30 with 19:36 left, the Hawks used a 23-6 run to take a 53-46 lead at the 11:19 mark. The Hawks held onto the lead for the next 10:04 until an Emanuel Prospere II layup with 15 seconds left tied the game at 67-all and sent the game to overtime.

UMSL (18-10) began overtime on an 8-1 run over the first 3:45 to take a 75-68 lead. The Tritons went on to seal the victory and will face the winner of third-seeded Upper Iowa and sixth-seeded Truman State on Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

The Hawks had four players in double figures, led by Jaylen Wesley with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists. Brian Hawthorne added 18 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Daniel Carr notched his seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds while adding a block and a steal. Jesse White recorded 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Rockhurst shot 38.5 percent (25-of-65) from the field and 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from three. The Hawks also collected 37 rebounds.
