Softball sweeps Truman State, 3-2 and 2-0

Emily Berry's walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh gave Rockhurst to a 3-2 win over Truman State in Game One of a doubleheader Saturday at Loyola Park.

The Hawks also won 2-0 in Game Two behind a combined five-hit shutout from Madeline McCall and Riley Braden.

Rockhurst has now won five in a row, which is its longest winning streak of the season.

Game One: Rockhurst 3, Truman State 2
Rockhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first after Claire Tipton reached first on a fielding error. Truman State took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth after a two-run triple.

Tipton's RBI double in the sixth tied the game at 2-2 before Berry's walk-off home run an inning later. Eva Fulk went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.

Avery Huffman (3-7) recorded her second win in as many days. She pitched a complete game and struck out seven Bulldogs.

Game Two: Rockhurst 2, Truman State 0
Huffman's first home run of the season gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the third. Lily Hance stole home in the bottom of the sixth to extend the Rockhurst lead to 2-0.

Claire Long and Eva Fulk both went 1-for-3. McCall pitched 3.1 innings and allowed four hits while striking out three. Braden (3-2) picked up the win and allowed one hit while also striking out three in 3.2 innings.

The Hawks (12-16, 9-7 GLVC) meet William Jewell next Sunday at noon and 2 p.m. in Liberty, Missouri.
