RU wins doubleheader over Quincy

Rockhurst Softball won both games during a Friday doubleheader against Quincy on Friday at Loyola Park, defeating Quincy 10-6 in Game One and 8-4 in Game Two.

Game One: Rockhurst 10, Quincy 6
Quincy scored two in the top of the first and Rockhurst answered with one in the bottom of the first with a Claire Tipton sacrifice fly.

Rockhurst scored three in the second to take a 4-2 lead after a Kaylee Pugh RBI double and an Avery Huffman two-run triple. An Emily Berry sacrifice fly pushed the Rockhurst lead to 5-2 after three innings.

Quincy tallied two in the top of the fourth and an Eva Fulk RBI single made it 6-4 Rockhurst after four innings. In the fifth, McKenna Lester hit a two-run home run, her second home run of the season. Moments later, Berry scored on a throwing error to increase the Rockhurst lead to 9-4.

Quincy added one in the sixth, as Rockhurst collected its 10th run after Lester's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.

Lester went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored along with her home run. Tipton also went 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Fulk was 3-for-4 with a run scored. 

Huffman picked up her second win of the season. She pitched six innings and struck out seven.

The Hawks collected 14 hits, three doubles, two triples and two stolen bases.

Game Two: Rockhurst 8, Quincy 4
Rockhurst scored two in the first on a Berry sacrifice fly that scored two runs. In the bottom of the second, Fulk's RBI single and a three-base error scored both Fulk and Huffman, allowing Rockhurst to have a 4-0 lead after two innings. 

A Claire Long triple made it 5-0 and a Pugh home run increased the Rockhurst lead to 7-0 after three innings. In the fourth, an RBI single by Jayla Pierce stretched the lead to 8-0.

Quincy scored three runs in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Berry went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tipton went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Huffman recorded two hits and scored a run.

Madeline McCall recorded her sixth win of the season. She pitched 4.2 innings and struck out three.

Rockhurst recorded 11 hits, drew seven walks, collected two doubles, a triple and two stolen bases.

Rockhurst (10-16, 7-7 GLVC) faces Truman State on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Loyola Park.
