Hawks drop pair to Illinois Springfield

Rockhurst Softball dropped two games to Illinois Springfield on Sunday at Loyola Park, falling 4-3 and 4-0.

Game One: UIS 4, Rockhurst 3
Springfield scored four runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. An RBI double by Claire Long cut the Prairie Stars' lead to 4-1 after four innings.

The Hawks chipped away again in the sixth after McKenna Lester's RBI single made it a 4-2 heading into the seventh.

Mya Bristow's second home run of the season pulled the Hawks within one at 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh. Moments later, the Hawks had the winning run at second base with two outs, but the Prairie Stars held on for the win.

Eva Fulk had a team-leading three hits. Lester added two hits. Fulk stole a pair of bases while Long also stole a bases.

Game Two: UIS 4, Rockhurst, 0
The Prairie Stars scored three in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Springfield scored once in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 4-0.

Long led the Hawks with two hits. Berry and Jayla Pierce posted doubles and Lily Hance also collected a single.

The Hawks (7-13, 4-4 GLVC) hit the road next weekend, facing Upper Iowa on Saturday in Fayette, Iowa followed by a pair against Lewis on Sunday in Romeoville, Illinois.
