Hawks split doubleheader with No. 16 Indianapolis

A combined five-hit shutout by Madeline McCall and Avery Huffman led the Hawks to a 6-0 victory in game one of a Saturday doubleheader with 16th-ranked Indianapolis at Loyola Park. The Hawks fell to the Greyhounds, 19-9, in Game Two.

Game 1: Rockhurst 6, Indianapolis 0
The Hawks scored five runs in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Claire Tipton started the scoring by reaching on an error, bringing home Kerstyn Finch. McKenna Lester collected a two-run double, and Emily Berry connected on a two-run home run.

Mya Bristow's RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth extended the Rockhurst lead to 6-0.

Tipton and Lester each recorded two hits to lead the Hawks. Eva Fulk, Bristow, and Jazmyne Moreno collected hits along with Berry.

McCall (4-5) went five innings, allowing four hits and struck out four. Huffman pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit and struck out one.

Game 2: Indianapolis 19, Rockhurst 9
Indianapolis (14-10, 4-2 GLVC) scored four in the top of the first to take a 4-0 lead.

The Hawks answered with two in the bottom of the first, beginning with a single by Fulk that led to Finch scoring off an error. Moments later, Fulk scored after a throwing error as Lester stole second, cutting the Greyhound lead to 4-2.

Huffman scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to get the Hawks within one at 4-3. Indianapolis scored four in the third to go up 8-3, but an RBI triple by Berry moments later cut the Greyhounds' lead to 8-4 after four innings.

A sacrifice fly by Lester, a three-run triple by Huffman and an RBI single by Ceara Swanson in the bottom of the fifth put Rockhurst back in front, 9-8.

The Greyhounds scored seven in the top of the sixth and four in the top of the seventh to take a 19-9 lead.

Huffman led the Hawks with three hits. Fulk and Finch each had two hits.

The Hawks (7-11, 4-2 GLVC) play two at Loyola Park on Sunday, facing Illinois Springfield at noon and 2 p.m.
