Hawks host Maryville in NCAA Super Regional

SUPER REGIONAL 3: The 10th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks, 12-4-3, are hosting a second-round Super Regional 3 game in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championships. Fourth-seeded Rockhurst will meet fifth-seeded Maryville, 12-6-2, on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. at Rockhurst's Bourke Field. This is the third meeting between the two schools this season. The Hawks won the first meeting, 2-1, at Rockhurst on Oct. 13 and the Saints edged the Hawks, 2-1, in the GLVC Tournament semifinals on Nov. 13 in St. Louis.

NCAA HISTORY: Rockhurst will be playing in its 11th NCAA Tournament. The Hawks are making their first appearance in the NCAAs since 2017. Rockhurst defeated Maryville at home, 1-0, in the NCAA Tournament in 2017. The Hawks have a 13-6-7 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament dating back to 2002.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Rockhurst ranks 12th in team goals against average (0.733) and 32nd in shutout percentage with seven shutouts in 19 games in NCAA Division II. Senior goalkeeper Franco Briani Brunoro ranks ninth nationally in goals against average (0.644). Senior midfielder Kaden Cripe ranks 15th nationally in game-winning goals (4). Senior midfielder Asier Olano is tied for 37th in assists (7) in Division II.

SEVEN-TIME GLVC CHAMPIONS: The Hawks captured their seventh Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship in 2025 with a 10-1-2 league record. Rockhurst also won GLVC regular season titles in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2017.

GLVC HONORS: Rockhurst senior goalkeeper Franco Briani Brunoro, junior defender Mattia Petricca and Rockhurst head coach Tony Tocco garnered major postseason honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Briani Brunoro was named the GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year. Petricca was selected the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year, while Tocco earned GLVC Coach of the Year accolades. Tocco is now a seven-time GLVC Coach of the Year, having previously been recognized by GLVC coaches in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Joining Petricca and Briani Brunoro on the All-GLVC First Team are sophomore redshirt Blake Barric, redshirt senior defender Noah Brende, senior midfielder Kaden Cripe, senior defender Asier Olano and sophomore forward Immanuel Wayoro.

COACH TONY TOCCO: Coach Tocco ranks second on the all-time list among intercollegiate men's soccer coaches with 751 victories, trailing Ohio Wesleyan's Jay Martin who has 774 victories. Since joining the NCAA in 1998, the Hawks have advanced to the national tournament 10 times. The Hawks finished third in the nation in Division II in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and ranked fourth nationally in 2008, 2011 and 2012. Rockhurst won NCAA Midwest Regional titles in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016, and reached the national semifinals in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS: Maryville captured the GLVC Tournament championship with a 2-1 victory over McKendree on Saturday, Nov. 15. Maryville has now won four GLVC titles, with head coach Adam Hall winning his first crown in just his second year with the Saints. Senior forward Sebastian Weitlaner leads the Saints with 10 goals and 20 points. Weitlaner was named to the All-GLVC First Team.
