Late run pushes Hawks to 3-2 win over Drury

A late run in the fifth set pushed second-seeded Rockhurst to a 3-2 victory over seventh-seeded Drury in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday in Williamsville, Illinois.

Down 10-9 in the decisive fifth set, Rockhurst went on a 6-1 run to end the match. Ali Olson, Chloe Tyrrell and Delaney Hope collected kills during the run while Katie Vargo had a service ace. Hope recorded the match-sealing block.

Rockhurst won the first set, 25-23, after ending the set on a 15-7 run. The Panthers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set and took a 17-16 lead. A 4-0 run put Rockhurst up 20-17 in route to a 25-21 second-set win.

Drury took the third set, 25-21 and won the fourth set, 25-17.

Sarah Pyle had team highs in kills (18) and digs (17). Hope tallied 11 kills and eight blocks. Tyrrell added 12 kills and a team-leading two service aces.

Molly Trachta and Mary Kate Mulvaney combined for 42 assists and 20 digs.

Rockhurst finished with 62 kills, 68 digs, 59 assists, 15 team blocks and four service aces.

The Hawks (21-9) face No. 3 seed Quincy (23-5) on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the GLVC Tournament semifinals.
