First-half goals carries Hawks past Cardinals

The Rockhurst women scored three goals in the first 19 minutes to give the Hawks a 3-1 victory over William Jewell Friday in Liberty, Missouri.

Anna Lantz opened the scoring in the third minute with her 12th goal of the season, with an assist from Maya Wallace. Julia Witt recorded her fourth goal of the season in the fifth minute, assisted by Lexi Matzke.

Caitlyn Smith collected her seventh goal of the season in the 19th minute with an assist from Lantz. The Cardinals notched their goal at the end of the 40th minute.

Lizzo Rosenthal led Rockhurst with five shots (two on goal). Lantz had four shots (three on goal). Smith added four shots on goal.

The Hawks outshot the Cardinals 18-3 (13-2 on goal). Madison Mertzlufft recorded one save. 

Rockhurst (6-4-3, 5-3-2 GLVC) returns to action on Friday, Oct. 24 at Southwest Baptist.
