Big runs carry Upper Iowa past Hawks

Two big runs in each half carried Upper Iowa to a 65-49 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night in Fayette, Iowa.

Upper Iowa jumped out to a 17-4 lead behind a 12-0 run early in the second period. The Peacocks ended the first half on a 10-4 run to take a 31-18 halftime lead.

Rockhurst scored 10 unanswered points in the fourth period to cut a 16-point deficit to six with 5:23 left to play. Keegan Sullivan scored eight points in the run on a tip-in, three-pointer and jump shot.

The Peacocks closed the game on a 13-3 run over the final 3:29. The Hawks missed seven of their final eight field goals.

Sullivan led the Hawks with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Sullivan scored 11 points in the first half and nine points in the second half.

Chloe Frank posted seven points, four rebounds and two steals. Rebeca Garcia added six rebounds and three blocks.
