Hawks drop opener at Fort Hays State, 2-1

The Rockhurst men's soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 2-1 loss to Fort Hays State Thursday in Hays, Kansas.

Fort Hays State scored the winning goal with two minutes left in the game. Ibrahim Madad scored on a shot near the goal off a corner kick.

The Hawks knotted the game with an unassisted goal off a long free kick by reserve Asier Olano in the 74th minute. The Tigers scored their first goal in the 36th minute.

Rockhurst finished with six shots, including five shots in the second half. Blake Barrick tallied two shots and one shot on goal. Fort Hays State tallied 16 shots.

RU keeper Franco Brunoro made five saves in his first game with the Hawks.
