McKendree held on to defeat the Hawks, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field after the Hawks rallied from a three-goal deficit.
The 24th-ranked Bearcats (5-0, 1-0 GLVC) scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute to go up 1-0. Two more goals in the 24th and 27th minutes extended the McKendree lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Rockhurst (2-2, 0-1 GLVC) answered with a goal in the 47th minute by Anna Lantz. She scored her second goal in as many matches by landing a shot to the upper left of the goal to cut the Bearcats' lead to 3-1. Gabby Hennessy added a goal on a long free kick to make it a 3-2 match in the 58th minute. Neither team allowed a goal for the final 32 minutes.
The Hawks tallied 14 total shots, including 12 in the second half. For the match, Rockhurst outshot McKendree 14-9 and 12-2 in the second half.
Lantz finished with five shots and three shots on goal to lead the team. Hennessy also took three shots of her own, as Taylor James recorded three saves.
