Hawks sweep Jewell to clinch GLVC tourney berth

Rockhurst swept a doubleheader against William Jewell, 5-2 and 5-4, Friday at Loyola Park to clinch a berth in next week's 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament.

In the second game, the Hawks rallied from a 4-3 deficit on a game-tying double by Patrick Wind in the fifth and a go-ahead single by Drew Cornelison in the sixth.

Jake Canent (10-4) shut out the Cardinals on two hits over the final 2.2 innings. Jackson Dearing allowed four runs on six hits with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

Cornelison led the Hawks with three hits and two RBIs. Adonis Forte and Matthew Brimacombe each had two hits.

In Friday's opener, Andrew Loeffelman drove in four runs with a two-run single in the first and a two-run double in the sixth.

Michael Laudando and Brimacombe each had two hits. Laudando went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out seven.

Jewell won the opening game of the series, 6-5, on Thursday night in Liberty, Missouri. The Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning and scored the deciding run in the sixth.

The Hawks (27-21, 18-16 GLVC) close out the regular season at home against Jewell on Saturday afternoon.
