Hawks fall in 10 innings in GLVC elimination game

Rockhurst rallied in the ninth inning to force extra innings before falling to Drury, 4-2, in 10 innings in an elimination game Friday in the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Tournament at Mtn. Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.

Drury (27-24) scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th inning. The Panthers took a 3-2 lead on a throwing error from first baseman Andrew Loeffelman to home plate and scored another run on a wild pitch.

The Hawks pushed across two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Loeffelman and a pinch-hit RBI single by Payton Clerk.

Jake Canent (10-5) allowed two runs on two hits with four strikeouts over 3.0 innings. Gavyn Dockery held Drury to two runs on six hits and struck out four over 6.0 innings.

Matthew Brimacombe posted two hits with two runs scored and a stolen base. Mac Cross collected two hits, including a run-scoring double in the sixth. Loeffelman singled home the Hawks' first run in the fifth.

Rockhurst finished with 11 hits while stranding 12 runners. The Hawks end their season with a 27-24 record.
