Offense carries Hawks to sweep over Quincy

Jayla Pierce hit a pair of home runs to lead the Rockhurst softball team to a doubleheader sweep over Quincy on Senior Day Saturday at Loyola Park.

Pierce homered to left-center in the second inning to open the scoring in Rockhurst's 4-2 win in the first game.

Lilly Spring and Riley McGovern collected run-scoring doubles in the second and sixth. Maya Gallagher singled home a run in the fifth. McGovern and Gallagher led the Hawks with two hits apiece.

Avery Huffman (7-9) held Quincy to two runs on four hits while striking out seven over 7.0 innings.

Emily Berry led Rockhurst to an 11-3 win in the second game, going 4-for-4 at the plate and driving in two runs. Her two-run home run gave the Hawks a 6-0 lead in the second.

Kerstyn Finch drove in two runs with a single in the first and a double in the sixth. Emma Vodnansky hit a two-run double in the first and Cheyenne Minnick added an RBI triple in the fourth.

Pierce ended the game with a three-run homer to center in the sixth.

Anna Newcomer picked up her fourth win of the season, allowing three runs on five hits over 6.0 innings.

The Hawks (13-19, 8-10 GLVC) host Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon.
