Pitching carries Hawks in sweep over Maryville

Strong pitching and timely hitting led Rockhurst to a pair of wins over Maryville, 3-0 and 3-2, in a GLVC softball doubleheader Saturday at Loyola Park.

Avery Huffman (5-8) blanked the Saints on five hits in the first game. The sophomore right-hander struck out five and walked three.

Cheyenne Minnick and Lilly Spring collected RBI singles in the first and second innings. Lauren Good added a solo home run to left field in the sixth. Kerstyn Finch and Riley McGovern each had two hits.

The Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second game. Maya Gallagher hit an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch in the first. Finch doubled home Emma Vodnansky in the second. Finch and Gallagher each posted two hits.
 
Anna Newcomer (2-7) allowed two runs on seven hits over 5.1 innings. Anna Stephen pitched the final 1.2 innings to get her first save of the season.

The Hawks (8-18, 3-9 GLVC) host Missouri Western in a doubleheader on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
