Late shot give Miners 78-75 win over Hawks

Missouri S&T ruined Rockhurst's postseason hopes by edging the Hawks, 78-75, Thursday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Miners' Ikenna Akeke connected on a game-winning 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left after Rockhurst missed two shots in the final minute. S&T rallied from a five-deficit, 64-59, in the final eight minutes.

Brian Hawthorne led the Hawks with a career-high 23 points, five rebounds and four 3-pointers. Jake Auer scored 13 points and made three 3-pointers.

Nico Felici collected 12 points and four rebounds. Timaris Brown posted nine points and five rebounds. Nick Arensberg added nine points, four assists and three steals.

S&T shot 47.5 percent from the field (29-of-61) while scoring 34 points in the paint. Julien Smith led the Miners (15-11, 9-10 GLVC) with 16 points.

Rockhurst shot 46.6 percent from the field (27-of-58) and made 12-of-26 three-pointers. The Miners made 31-of-62 field goals and connected on 11-of-29 three-pointers.
