Hot start leads Springfield past Hawks

Illinois Springfield connected on its first 10 shots on the way to posting a 92-69 victory over Rockhurst Saturday on the UIS campus.

The Prairie Stars jumped out to a 51-30 lead in the first 15 minutes and took a 53-34 lead into halftime. Rockhurst cut UIS's lead to 74-60 at the 8:30 mark in the second half.

Timaris Brown led the Hawks with 25 points and six rebounds. The sophomore forward made 12-of-17 free throws.

Miles White scored 24 points on nine-of-17 shooting, including hitting four-of-seven 3-point field goals.

Rockhurst shot 36.7 percent from the field (22-of-60) and made eight 3-pointers. The Prairie Stars shot 54.7 percent from the field (35 of 64) and connected on 11 three-pointers.

Jacob Hanna led Springfield (16-7, 9-7 GLVC) with 19 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
