Rockhurst Dance Squad earns first place honors

The Rockhurst University Dance Squad earned first place honors in the Game Day category at the Innovative Choreography Open Championship Sunday at Olathe East High School in Olathe, Kansas.

Rockhurst ranked sixth out of 15 schools in the overall team scores, which includes the Game Day, Pom, Jazz, Team Performance and Hip Hop categories. Kansas State University was awarded the grand champion prize.

The Rockhurst Dance Team consisted of Molly Kimmey, Olivia DiGerlamo, Brenna McAdam, Theresa Sudholt, Addi Davis, Audrey Krenzer, Jaeden Hardison, Gabriela Walahoski, Grace Olson, Sofia Occhipinti, and Olivia Helfrich.

"This year our team has returned to a competitive program after several years of only performing at games. The dancers have worked extremely hard transitioning to a competitive program, and I couldn't be prouder of their dedication and perseverance," said Spirit Squad Director LaTisha Davis.

"They truly embody what it means to be a team and their passion for dance is evident in every performance. We will take the feedback from the judges as a motivation to continue improving and striving for excellence as we prepare to compete at the NDA College Nationals in April."

The NDA College Nationals will be held Apri 10-13 in Daytona, Florida.
