Late free throws carry Bearcats past Hawks, 66-61

McKendree made eight free throws in the final minute to pull away for a 66-61 victory over Rockhurst Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Rockhurst took a 58-57 lead on a layup by Rebeca Garcia with 3:30 left to play. The Hawks didn't score again until Aubrey Treadwell made a 3-pointer with four seconds left to cut McKendree's lead to 64-61.

The Hawks took a 31-30 lead into halftime after outscoring the Bearcats 17-10 in the second period. McKendree opened the second half on a 14-0 run to take a 44-31 lead. The Hawks then went on a 16-5 run to cut the Bearcats' lead to 49-47.

Macie Conway led the Hawks with 17 points (on seven-of-12 shooting) and two steals. The junior guard scored 10 points in the second half on four-of-five shooting.

Garcia posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Keegan Sullivan fouled out with seven points, six rebounds and three assists. Aubrey Treadwell and Lauren Sandstrom each had six points and three rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63) from the floor and 81.8 percent (nine-of-11) from the foul line.
