Hawks fall short in season opener to Ravens

The Rockhurst women's basketball team rallied late before falling to Benedictine, 86-82, Saturday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Benedictine jumped out to a 46-33 halftime lead and took a 20-point lead, 63-43, midway through the third quarter. Rockhurst went on a 22-11 run to cut the Ravens' lead to nine with 6:38 left to play. The Hawks pulled within five points, 82-77, at the 1:52 mark behind a 10-1 run.

Macie Conway scored all of her team-high 21 points in the second half. She made eight-of-16 field goals and four-of-seven from behind the 3-point line.

Keegan Sullivan finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Clare Diener scored 12 points off the bench. Aubrey Treadwell tacked on 10 points with three 3-pointers. Rebeca Garcia added nine points and five rebounds.

The Hawks shot 44.3 percent (27-of-61) from the floor and 39.3 percent (11-of-28) from the 3-point line. The Ravens won the battle of the boards, 49-29, and outscored Rockhurst, 32-26, in the paint.
