Rockhurst captures first GLVC Men’s Lacrosse crown

Rockhurst rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Lewis 9-8 in the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament championship game Sunday at Key Stadium on the campus of University of Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The second-seeded Hawks (10-5) outscored the fourth-seeded Flyers (10-6) by a 3-1 margin in the fourth quarter to rally for their first-ever GLVC Tournament championship.

In the first quarter, both teams traded a pair of goals, as Nate Adamson and Jack Vande Ven scored goals for Rockhurst. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second period on goals by Alec Heflin and Tyler Smith before Lewis pulled within 4-3 at halftime. The Flyers outscored Rockhurst 4-2 in the third period to take a 7-6 lead into the final frame.

Smith scored back-to-back goals to give the Hawks an 8-7 lead with 7:07 left to play. RU's Ricky Bloom added another goal two minutes later to make it 9-7. The Flyers were able to get one back with 2:08 remaining.

Seven Hawks tallied at least one goal with Smith leading all scorers with three goals on four shots. Bjorn Anderson scooped up a game-high seven ground balls and Hayden Harris registered 11 saves for the Hawks.
