Softball earns No. 7 seed in GLVC Tournament

Rockhurst Softball won two games at home on the final weekend of the regular season to clinch a spot in the 2023 GLVC Tournament. The seventh-seeded Hawks (20-24, 13-10 GLVC) will face second-seeded Missouri-St. Louis (30-18, 16-8 GLVC) on the first day of the GLVC Tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. in East Peoria, Illinois.

Five seniors were honored before Saturday's games: Gwen Bostick, Clare Reinhart, Jaden Santoni, Allison Shakiba and Calli Wibbenmeyer.

Saturday's Games

Game One: Truman State 6, RU 2

The Bulldogs struck for four runs in their final two at-bats to upset the Hawks.
  • Calli Wibbenmeyer gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead in the fourth with a two-run home run.
  • Gwen Bostick singled in the first and scored a run in the fourth.
  • BreAnna Droge (5-6) allowed six runs on 10 hits over 6.2 innings.
 
Game Two: RU 6, Truman State 5 (8 inn.)

Gwen Bostick drove home the winning run with hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Bostick led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs. She homered in the third and added an RBI single in the fourth.
  • Maya Gallagher doubled home two runs in the fourth.
  • Anna Newcomer pitched the final two innings to win her fifth game of the season.
     
Sunday's Games

Game One: RU 7, Quincy 4

The Hawks scored four runs in the sixth inning to rally from a 4-3 deficit.
  • Gwen Bostick posted two hits, including a two-run single in the third.
  • Calli Wibbenmeyer tied the game at 4-4 with a solo home run to right center in the sixth.
  • Emilee Farnan drove in the winning run with a single down the right field line in the sixth.
 
Game Two: Quincy 5, RU 1

Quincy scored three runs in the fourth and added two more runs in the sixth.
  • Avery Huffman gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead with a solo home run to left field in the second.
  • Jayla Pierce doubled in the second and walked in the fourth.
  • Huffman (6-5) struck out eight hitters over 5.2 innings.
