Hawks upset UMSL in GLVC Tournament

BreAnna Droge pitched a one-hit shutout to power seventh-seeded Rockhurst to a 3-0 victory over second-seeded Missouri-St. Louis Thursday to advance to the winner's bracket of the GLVC Softball Tournament in East Peoria, Illinois.

Droge (7-6) only allowed one base runner in posting her first shutout of the season. UMSL's Megan Brown led off the fifth with an infield single. Droge struck out two and did not allow a walk while only throwing 61 pitches.

Senior shortstop Maya Gallagher hit a two-run home run to center field to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning.

Clare Reinhart stretched the lead to 3-0 with a single in the seventh to score pinch-runner Emma Vodnansky.

Gallagher ended the day with one hit, one run scored and two RBIs as Rockhurst finished with two hits.

The Hawks (21-24) will take on sixth-seeded Lewis on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
