The Rockhurst softball team opened the weekend by splitting a doubleheader at Illinois Springfield on Saturday. Rockhurst lost a pair of close games at Lewis on Sunday. The Hawks (18-22, 11-8 GLVC) close out the regular at home this weekend against Truman State and Quincy.
SATURDAYÂ
Game 1: Illinois Springfield 2, RU 0Â Â
The Prairie Stars outhit the Hawks, 7-2. UIS scored runs in the third and sixth innings. Â
Game 2: RU 3, Illinois Springfield 1
Thee Hawks held UIS to two hits. Gwen Bostick scored an unearned run in the fourth and added an RBI double in the seventh.
- Bostick led the Hawks with two hits.
- Maya Gallagher collected an RBI single in the fifth.
- Avery Huffman (6-3) struck out six in 7.0 innings.
SUNDAYÂ
Game 1: Lewis 9, RU 8Â
Lewis took control of the game early with six runs in the second inning. The Hawks battled back with a three-run home run in the third by Calli Wibbenmeyer and cut their deficit to 6-5. A home run in the sixth inning by Jayla Pierce made it a 9-6 game. The Hawks added two runs in the seventh to pull within one run of the Flyers.
Game 2: Lewis 4, RU 2Â
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead in the first on home runs by Calli Wibbenmeyer and Maya Gallagher, but were held to two hits the rest of the way.
- Lewis scored two runs on two hits in the third.Â
- Avery Huffman (6-4) held the Flyers to four hits in 4.2 innings.
