The Rockhurst softball team closed out a busy weekend with a doubleheader split at Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday. The Hawks ended UMSL's 12-game winning streak with a 7-5 win in the first game. The Tritons won the second game, 5-0. On Saturday, Rockhurst dropped its first two conference games with 1-0 and 7-6 losses at Maryville.
SATURDAY
Game 1: Maryville 1, RU 0Â
Rockhurst was outhit 6-3 while Maryville won the game with a walk-off double in the seventh inning.
Game 2: Maryville 7, RU 6
It was a back-and-forth battle, with the Saints leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Maya Gallagher hit a three-run home run in the sixth to give the Hawks a 6-4 lead. Maryville regained a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth and held Rockhurst hitless in the top of the seventh.
SUNDAY
Game 1: RU 7, UMSL 5Â
Rockhurst took the early lead as Avery Huffman hit a home run to center in the first. The Hawks extended their lead in the fourth as Gallagher hit a solo home run off the scoreboard in left-center to make it 5-3. Rockhurst added two more runs in the fifth on a bloop single with the bases loaded and Huffman drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-3.
- Huffman reached base three times and drove in three runs.
- Seven different Hawks scored a run.Â
- BreAnna Droge (4-2) held the Tritons to five runs on 13Â hits in 7.0 innings.Â
Game 2: UMSL 5, RU 0
UMSL held the Hawks to five hits behind the pitching of Ashley Borowitz. Â
