Hawks clinch No. 4 tourney seed with win over Quincy

Rockhurst finished strong down the stretch to end the regular season with a 69-63 win over Quincy Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks (16-12, 11-9 GLVC) earned the No. 4 seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament and will face No. 5 seed Missouri-St. Louis in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals on Friday at noon on the Lindenwood University campus in St. Charles, Missouri.

Rich Byhre led Rockhurst with 22 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. The junior forward connected on eight-of-16 field goals, including four-of-seven 3-pointers. Byhre's driving layup with 4:12 left gave the Hawks a 64-56 lead.

Rockhurst jumped out to a 35-19 lead on a three-point shot by Jake Auer with 3:59 left in the first half. The Hawks went into halftime with a 38-26 lead with Byhre leading the way with 15 points.

Nico Felici came off the bench to score 10 points on four-of-seven shooting. Auer scored nine points on three 3-pointers. Nick Arensberg collected 10 rebounds, five points and three assists.

Malik Hardmon led Quincy (14-14, 10-10 GLVC) with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
