Hawks drop season opener at Rogers State

The Rockhurst baseball team opened the season with a 2-1 loss to Rogers State Friday in Claremore, Okla.

Rogers State scored two runs in the eighth inning on only one hit. The Hawks hit two Hillcat batters and committed a costly throwing error. The Hawks made it a one-run game in the ninth on a solo home run by Cole Wagner.

Freshman Peyton Clerk and Adonis Forte both walked twice and stole a pair of bases. Senior right-hander Clayton Medlin (0-1) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out four over 7.2 innings.

The Hawks close out the weekend at Rogers State with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
