Women drop season opener to Bearcats

The Rockhurst women opened the 2023-24 season with an 80-57 loss to Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium.
 
The Hawks struggled to score early, falling behind 35-18 at halftime. Rockhurst went on a 22-15 run to open the fourth quarter to pull within 14 points, 66-52, with 3:09 left.

Keegan Sullivan scored 11 of her team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter. The senior forward also led the Hawks with six rebounds. Ali Kamies posted 11 points and five rebounds. Macie Conway added seven points and four rebounds. Rebeca Garcia also scored seven points.

The Hawks collected 18 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers. Rockhurst shot 67.6 percent from the foul line (25-of-37).

Northwest Missouri (4-0) made 22-of-65 field goals (33.8 percent) and 28-of-34 free throws (82.4 percent). Lindsey Kelderman led the Bearcats with 15 points and four 3-pointers.
 
The Hawks (0-1) host Illinois Springfield in their conference opener at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.
