Women enter new season with deep roster

Keegan Sullivan has scored 945 points in her first three seasons
The 2023-24 Rockhurst women's basketball season tips off this weekend with one of the Hawks' deepest rosters under veteran head coach Larry Park.

The Hawks return seven players who have seen extensive action and welcome seven new players heading into today's 1 p.m. season opener against Northwest Missouri State at Municipal Auditorium.

"We are going to try to press and plan on playing faster," Park said. "We lost a couple of starters, but everyone else is back. The nice thing about our transfers is they are older kids who bring a lot of experience."

Senior Keegan Sullivan is the top returner for the Hawks. The South Bend, Indiana native, averaged 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last year. The All-GLVC Second Team honoree has scored 945 in her first three seasons.

Sullivan will move from the wing to play at the power forward spot. She will be joined in the frontcourt by junior center Rebeca Garcia, junior forward Addison Bent and freshman forward Alivia McCulla.

The backcourt returns Allison McFarren, Lani Thompson, Ali Kamies and Macie Conway. McFarren will run the offense after starting all 28 games at point guard last year. Kamies and Conway combined for 517 points as freshmen last year. Thompson is back after missing most of last season with an injury.

Akili Felici, Nora Ford, Kaitlyn Kennedy and Sophie Leinfelder are transfers who will boost the backcourt. Freshmen guards Ella Campbell and Aubrey Treadwell add depth.

"I think the challenge for us is getting everybody to mesh and playing together in a style we are not used to playing," Park said. "We are going to get up and down the floor. We plan on playing 94 feet. We are a better 3-point shooting team. We have improved our perimeter shooting."

Rockhurst posted a 13-15 record last season and have won 100 games over the past eight seasons.

The Hawks will play a 22-game conference schedule this year, which begins next Wednesday night at home against Illinois Springfield.

Live stats and live videos will be available for all games this season. Check the Rockhurst website for the game links.
