The Rockhurst Hawks led much of the first half at Southwest Baptist, but the Bearcats pulled away in the third quarter for an 69-59 win Thursday night in Bolivar, Missouri.
A Macie Conway jumper at the 1:33 mark of the first quarter stretched the Rockhurst advantage to 14-7. The Hawks did not surrender the lead until midway through the second quarter. The Bearcats had too much firepower the rest of the way, led by Tori Hamilton (16 points) and Emma Perry (14 points).
Keegan Sullivan recorded a team-high in points (15), while grabbing five rebounds. Conway and Molly Hummel scored in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Hummel was just shy of gathering her fourth double-double of the season by collecting a team-high nine rebounds. Ali Kamies added eight points and five rebounds.
The Hawks struggled from the outside, connecting on just five-of-21 threes (23.8 percent). SBU had advantages in points off turnovers (23-13) and bench points (31-24).
Rockhurst (8-10, 3-7 GLVC) are back home on Thursday, Jan. 26 to take on Missouri S&T.
