The Rockhurst Hawks defeated the William Jewell Cardinals, 2-0, in their conference opener in Liberty, Missouri. The Hawks improved to 2-1-2 on the season and 1-0 in the GLVC.
Freshmen forward Lizzo Rosenthal started things off offensively for the Hawks, scoring on a penalty kick in the 38th minute.
The Hawks outshot Jewell, 24-11, with seven shots coming from Rosenthal and four shots from Anna Lantz.
Goalkeeper Alyssa Kerperien posted seven saves and now has three shutouts on the season.
Sophomore midfielder Olivia Schwarzen tallied the final goal in the 85th minute on a 20-yard shot with an assist from Lantz.
This was the first game of the Kansas City Crown rivalry against William Jewell.
"It's certainly nice to start the conference season with a victory. We still have a lot to work on and improve on," said Coach Greg Herdlick.
The Hawks are back in action Friday at 4Â p.m. when they take on Southwest Baptist (1-2-2) in Bolivar, Missouri.
