Hawks tie in season opener against Concordia- St.Paul

The Rockhurst Hawks battled to a 1-1 tie in their season opener against Concordia-St. Paul on Thursday night in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Sophomore Gabby Hennessy started things off when she drilled the first goal of the game off a corner kick in the 56th minute to give the Hawks the lead.

Rockhurst outshot Concordia-St. Paul in the second half, 11-9. Senior Mallory Mumby led the Hawks with four shots on the night. Sophomore Olivia Schwarzen added three shots.

Goalkeeper Alyssa Kerperien had three saves before Concordia-St.Paul rallied in the final minutes to score a goal in the 88th minute.

"I am pleased with the result however it's just hard to swallow giving up a goal so late. We need to finish out future games and play the entire 90 minutes. Our effort in the second half was much better than the first (half) so hopefully it's something to build off going forward," said Coach Greg Herdlick.

The Hawks (0-0-1) play at Upper Iowa on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
