Laudando leads Hawks to season-ending win

Freshman right-hander Michael Laudando posted 10 strikeouts to lead Rockhurst to a 4-1 victory over Southwest Baptist in the final game of the season Sunday at Loyola Park.

Laudando's 10th strikeout of the game in the ninth inning was his 100th of the season. Laudando (7-5) allowed three hits and four walks over nine innings.

Devon Farrell led the Hawks with four hits on two singles and two doubles. He singled in the first and scored on on a single by by Hoyt Bennett. Farrell doubled in the fifth and scored on a two-run home run by Cameron Gardner.

Bennett collected two hits and finished his sophomore season with a team-high .370 batting average, 40 RBIs and a .596 slugging percentage.

Freshman shortstop Austin Murray gave the Hawks a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the second. Gardner capped the scoring with his fourth homer of the season over the left-field wall.

The Hawks wrap up the season with a 20-30 record and 10-18 mark in conference action.
