Softball posts 5-4 win over Missouri Western

Rockhurst opened the Lion Classic with a 5-4 victory over Missouri Western on Friday in Joplin, Missouri. The Hawks fell in Game Two to the Griffons, 8-4, and dropped a pair of games to Missouri Southern, 10-2 and 4-0, on Saturday.

Friday: RU 5-4, Missouri Western 4-8
Calli Wibbenmeyer drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. The Hawks scored four runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. Maya Gallagher hit a three-run double and Wibbenmeyer added an RBI single.

  • Freshman Bre Barchak got the last out in the seventh to get her first win of the year in Game One.
  • Shelby Winkelman and Wibbenmeyer each drove in a run with two hits in the second game.

Saturday: RU 2-0, Missouri Southern 10-4
The host Lions held the Hawks to two runs on seven hits in the two games.

  • Wibbenmeyer hit a two-run home run to right field in the first inning in Game One.
  • Haley Gatica held the Lions scoreless for three innings in Game Two. 

Up Next
The Hawks (4-8) play host to Drury in their conference opener on Friday.
