The Rockhurst softball opened conference play by posting two wins at Southwest Baptist on Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri. The Hawks blanked the Bearcats, 10-0, a five-inning run rule game. Rockhurst rallied in the seventh inning to win the second game, 4-3.
Game One: RU 10, Southwest Baptist 0
Anna Newcomer shut out the Bearcats on three hits over five innings with seven strikeouts. The Hawks scored seven runs in their first two at-bats.
- Josie Lindemann and Gwen Bostick combined for seven RBIs to lead the nine-hit RU attack.
- Lindemann hit a three-run home run in the first. Bostick had a two-run double in the second and an RBI triple in the fourth.
Game 2: RU 4, Southwest Baptist 3
Maya Gallagher hit a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh to rally the Hawks from a 3-1 deficit.
- Haley Gatica held Baptist to one run on three hits to get her third win of the season.
- Anna Newcomer retired the Bearcats in order in the seventh to get her first save.
