Women's Soccer earn major postseason honors

Five Hawks received All-GLVC honors.
Rockhurst junior defender Greta Seal, freshman forward Anna Lantz, and head coach Greg Herdlick have earned major postseason honors for the 2022 GLVC Women's Soccer season, the league office announced on Thursday (Nov. 3).

Seal earned Defensive Player of the Year, Lantz garnered Freshman of the Year, and Herdlick was dubbed Coach of the Year by his peers.

Seal becomes Rockhurst's first-ever Defensive Player of the Year and sixth overall major award winner. Seal played 1,391 minutes, helping Rockhurst hold opponents to 13 goals while recording eight shutouts. She added five points on one goal and three assists in earning her third All-Conference selection.

Lantz becomes Rockhurst's third GLVC Freshman of the Year following Taylor Skala in 2011 and McKenna Leetch in 2018. Lantz led the league in conference games with five game-winning goals and tied for the lead in points (19) and points per game (1.58). She was named GLVC Offensive Player of the Week three times.

Herdlick was voted by his peers as Rockhurst's first Coach of the Year in Women's Soccer, leading the Hawks to an 11-3-3 overall record and 10-1-1 GLVC record. He picked up his 250th career victory with a win over Quincy on Oct. 23.

Rockhurst earned three All-GLVC First Team honors. Joining Seal and Lantz on the first team was sophomore midfielder Olivia Schwarzen, who scored 12 points on five goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Gabby Hennessy and freshman midfielder Lizzo Rosenthal were both named to the All-GLVC Second Team.

Of the 33 All-Conference selections, McKendree led the way with six representatives, while Rockhurst, Maryville and Drury each had five selections.

The league also recognized 13 GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees. Junior midfielder Olivia Van Belle was RU's nominee. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These individuals must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
