Early run carries Hawks past Missouri Valley

Rockhurst scored the first 18 points of the game on the way to posting a 78-51 victory over Missouri Valley Tuesday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks made nine of their first 11 shots to take an 18-0 lead less than five minutes into the first quarter. Molly Hummel scored eight points on four field goals in the game-opening run.

Rockhurst took a 38-19 lead into halftime and grabbed a 60-34 lead after three quarters. The Hawks led by 30 points, 75-45, with 1:52 left to play.

Macie Conway led four players in double-figure scoring with 13 points on four-of-nine shooting. Hummel tallied 12 points, four rebounds and three steals. Ali Kamies collected 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Keegan Sullivan posted 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. Rebeca Garcia, Clare Diener and Abby Girard combined for 17 rebounds.

Rockhurst scored 46 points in the paint while shooting 43.2 percent from the field (32-of-74). The Hawks made 12-of-13 free throws (92.3 percent).

Missouri Valley, 4-2, made 19-of-64 field goals (29.7 percent). Ana Arroyo led the Vikings with 12 points.

The Hawks, 3-3, open conference play on Monday against Maryville.
