Hawks face UMSL in NCAA regional opener

The Hawks are the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region.
Rockhurst is returning to the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championships for the 15th time since 1998. The Hawks, 20-7, will face the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons, 21-6, in an NCAA Division II Midwest Regional first-round match Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, Illinois. The Midwest Regional winner will advance to the Division II national quarterfinals, Dec. 1-3, in Seattle, Washington.

RU vs. UMSL: Rockhurst and UMSL will be meeting for the third time this season. UMSL won the first meeting, 3-0, in Kansas City. The Hawks posted a 3-0 win over UMSL in the GLVC Tournament last week. Rockhurst owns a 21-10 lead in the all-time series.

2022 RU ROSTER: Rockhurst's 2022 NCAA roster includes two seniors, seven juniors, two sophomores and seven freshman representing seven different states. Sixteen members of the team are from Missouri (6), Kansas (5) and Nebraska (5). The other two student-athletes are from Iowa and Florida.

TEAM LEADERS: Kenzie Hines leads the team in kills (366) and points (428). Gracie LaForge is the team leader in blocks (128). Maureen Reilly has posted a team-high 573 digs. Sarah Montague tops the team with 919 assists.
  
STAT LEADERS: Four Rockhurst players rank among the top 10 statistically in the GLVC. Maureen Reilly is the league leader in digs (573), Kenzie Hines ranks fourth in kills and seventh in points. Gracie LaForge ranks eighth in hitting percentage and 10th in blocks. Sarah Montague stands fifth in blocks. Hines (633) and Reberry (644) both have over 600 career kills. Reilly has amassed 1,365 digs in her career.

ALL-GLVC HONORS: Four Rockhurst players received All-Conference honors from the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Junior outside hitter Kenzie Hines and junior libero Maureen Reilly earned First Team honors. Junior right hitter Tera Reberry and junior setter Sarah Montague libero both garnered Second Team accolades.

HEAD COACH: Trent Jones has guided the Hawks to a 52-26 record in his first three seasons at Rockhurst. Jones previously spent nine seasons as the associate head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Jones also was the head coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis from 2008-10. The Tritons posted a 64-28 overall record and a 35-10 conference mark.

NCAA PLAYOFF HISTORY: The Hawks have a 22-14 record in 14 previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament and are returning to the NCAA Championships for the eighth consecutive time. Rockhurst has reached the regional finals 10 times since 1998. The Hawks defeated Ferris State in the 2015 Midwest Regional finals, downed Lewis in the 2017 Midwest Regional finals, and swept Hillsdale in the 2019 Midwest Regional finals. Rockhurst also reached the regional finals in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2014 and 2018.
