Hawks prepare to face two MIAA foes

The Hawks host Washburn on Friday.
The Rockhurst Hawks face two of the top teams in the MIAA this week. The Hawks travel to Emporia State tonight (6 p.m.) and host Washburn in their home opener Friday (7 p.m.).

Rockhurst (1-1) posted an 83-72 victory over Davenport on Saturday in the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge. Rich Byhre, Jake Auer and Timaris Brown combined for 49 points and six 3-point field goals in the victory.

Emporia State (2-0) is led by Owen Long, who transferred from Maryville. The junior guard combined for 34 points in the Hornets' wins over Arkansas Tech (67-57) and Southwestern Oklahoma (88-65) last weekend.

The Hawks have won two of the last meetings with Emporia State, most recently winning 109-100 in double overtime at Emporia in 2019. The Hornets hold a 48-33 lead in the all-time series.

Washburn (1-1) returns to Rockhurst for the first time since 2019 when the Hawks edged the Ichabods, 57-55. Rockhurst has won four of the last six meetings and trail in the all-time series, 32-30.

Sophomore guard Jaden Monday led the Ichabods with 22 points in a 75-46 victory over 18th-ranked Augustana (S.D.) last Saturday at KC's Municipal Auditorium.

Live stats and live video will be available for both games. Check the Rockhurst web site for the game links.
