Hawks drop season opener against Walsh

The Rockhurst women's basketball team opened the season with an 80-71 loss to Walsh in the Nexus Classic Friday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Walsh pulled away from a 41-38 halftime lead to take a 62-50 lead into the fourth period. The Hawks could not get closer than seven points in the fourth period.

Freshman Macie Conway led the Hawks with 14 points. Molly Hummel collected 12 points on four-of-seven shooting. Allison McFarren finished with 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Keegan Sullivan tallied with nine points and seven rebounds. Addison Bent added seven points and seven rebounds.

Rockhurst scored 32 points in the paint while shooting 36.5 percent from the field (23-of-63). The Hawks' bench outscored Walsh's bench, 31-11.

Walsh, 1-0, made 27-of-60 field goals (45.0 percent). Morgan McMillen led the Cavaliers with 25 points.

The Hawks, 0-1, will face Parkside on Saturday at 2 p.m.
