Free throws carry Prairie Stars past Hawks

Free-throw shooting carried Illinois Springfield to an 82-68 victory over Rockhurst Monday night at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Prairie Stars connected on 35-of-43 free throws for 81.4 percent foul shooting.

The Prairie Stars jumped out to  a 41-31 halftime lead behind 15-of-16 foul shooting. The Hawks cut Springfield's lead to seven, 74-67, with 2:34 left to play. The Stars made their last eight free throws while holding Rockhurst to one point down the stretch.

Reagan Dodd led the Hawks with a career-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. The senior center went seven-for-nine from the field. Daly Sullivan collected 15 points and five assists. Allison McFarren scored nine points on three 3-pointers. Keegan Sullivan added seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Prairie Stars made 21-of-47 shots from the field (44.7 percent). Lauren Ladowski led Springfield with 24 points, six rebounds and four steals.
