Second-quarter run leads S&T past Hawks

Missouri S&T scored 18 unanswered points in the second quarter to lead the Miners to a 78-56 victory over Rockhurst Saturday in Rolla, Missouri.

Rockhurst went on a 17-11 run to cut S&T's lead to 21-18 at the end of the first quarter. Meghan Urbanski and Molly Hummel combined for 12 points in the opening period.

The Miners' second-quarter run gave S&T a 39-20 lead with 2:04 left in the first half. The Hawks missed nine consecutive shots while going scoreless for over seven minutes. S&T closed the third quarter on a 16-5 run to take a 63-36 lead.

Ella Wedergren led the Hawks with 11 points on four-of-six shooting. Urbanski finished with nine points (all in the first half). Hummel posted seven points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Rebeca Garcia also collected six rebounds.

The Miners (7-9, 4-6 GLVC) connected on 27-of-51 shots from the field (44.3 percent). Laura Rodriguez led S&T with 28 points.
