Hawks drop season opener to Emporia State

The Rockhurst women's soccer team dropped their season opener, falling 1-0 to Emporia State in the Stoney Creek Hotel Classic Friday in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Emporia State scored right in front of the net off a corner kick in the 87th minute for the game winner. The Hornets finished with 18 shots, including 11 shots on goal.

Rockhurst was held to six shots. Elle Guttmann and Gabby Hennessy led the Hawks with two shots apiece. Freshman Taylor James posted seven saves.

The Hawks (0-1) play at Missouri Western on Sunday.
